A Fairborn man has been sentenced to four years in prison for his role in “a case of extreme child abuse” involving his own daughter, prosecutors said Thursday.

Corey Michael Moody, 29, was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday on counts of child endangering and tampering with evidence.

Police found Moody’s 3-year-old daughter living in filthy and bug-infested conditions in a Fairborn apartment last January. Though he was not the custodial parent, Moody had visited the apartment multiple times, and didn’t take action or report the problem, Greene County Prosecutor David Hayes said.

Moody “not only knew of the child’s horrific living conditions,” Hayes' office said, but also “took conscious and deliberate steps” to obstruct the investigation into both himself and Rabyah Nadirah Muballigh, the girl’s mother.

“Although Corey Moody was not the custodial parent of the child, the investigation showed that Moody had been to the home several times in the months leading up to the discovery of the child’s emaciated condition by the police,” Hayes said. “Any adult who walked into that house and saw that child should have reported it immediately.”

Moody pleaded guilty to the charges in November, and Muballigh was sentenced to a minimum of 7 years in prison last June.

“As the biological father, Moody had both a moral and a legal responsibility to care for the victim and chose to do nothing,” Hayes said.

On Jan. 8, of last year, Fairborn Police received a 911 call from a woman reporting that a toddler at a Fairborn apartment was having difficulty breathing. The caller, later identified as Muballigh, claimed to be “Ariella Simpson,” according to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.

Though no one answered the door, officers entered the apartment due to the emergency nature of the situation. Upon entering a back bedroom, officers discovered the 3-year-old victim lying on the ground next to a bed, wearing nothing but a soiled diaper, officials said.

Paramedics immediately took the girl to a local hospital for treatment, where she spent time in the intensive care unit. Doctors found the girl weighed only 16 pounds, had numerous insect bites, and suffered from other medical complications.

“I am grateful for the exceptional police work provided by the Fairborn Police Department, in particular Detective Ryan Whittaker,” Hayes said.
